Art at SCHINKEL
About The Collision Project in Amsterdam
The Collision Project is a diverse and flexible testing ground for artists and visionaries of all disciplines to collaborate and discover the Schinkel District. We nurture art as experience, not as an object, and facilitate and activate new areas of co-creation.
Dutch artists Merijn Kavelaars and Studio Sigmon kicked off the art movement in Amsterdam. Schinkel District is thus becoming a home to a growing art and design community and more murals and graffiti art will appear at various locations around the Schinkel District in the near future.
We believe perpetual progress needs public space where the transfer of energy and ideas can be explored and shared.
Layering Ideas by Merijn Kavelaars
Merijn Kavelaars has developed a distinctive style which is defined by experimentation with lines, bursts of vibrant colours and organic shapes. The aesthetic is formed by his unique ability to subconsciously apply an intuitive self-taught practice to arrange shapes and colour, creating a visual sense of movement and diversity. Each of the seven doors encourages the viewer to interact with the energetic and playful artwork.
Connecting Circles Around Cycles by Studio Sigmon
By using abstract and colourful shapes Studio Sigmon gives expression to structure. The studio always looks for the right balance between freedom and framing in order to convey this tension in a cheerful way. By integrating the existing bicycle graphic and the colours in the hallway into his work, and through adding accent colours, literally intermediate forms have been created between the graphics and the space itself.
